This workshop explores the use of generative AI in academic writing, examining its impact on authorship and academic integrity. Participants will learn about the capabilities of AI in writing, such as translation and restructuring, and discuss the implications for originality and fairness in assessments. The session is designed for educators interested in adapting their teaching and assessment practices to incorporate AI tools. No prior knowledge of AI is required. The session will cover: Demonstrations of AI in academic writing processes, Implications of AI-assisted writing on authorship and academic integrity, Key issues around bias and fairness in AI-assisted writing and assessments, Strategies for adapting teaching and assessment to take AI into account features.

  • Examine how the concept of authorship could evolve due to technological advancements
  • Recognise potential biases in assessing writing supported by AI
  • Develop strategies for designing fair and valid assessments
