Applying AI in education - the AI Teaching and Learning Exploratory Fund outcomes

Colleagues chatting at the AI Knowledge Exchange Forum

In summer 2024, the AI and Machine Learning Centre joined forces with the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to launch the AI Teaching and Learning Exploratory Fund. This fund supported 12 projects exploring how AI could be employed to improve teaching and learning or academic administration at Oxford.

Support was provided in the form of expertise and technical resources from specialists at the AI and Machine Learning Competency Centre, along with expertise in educational projects from the CTL, over the duration of the 2024-25 academic year.

What is the AI Teaching and Learning Exploratory Fund?

The objective of the AI Teaching and Learning Exploratory Fund was to support projects that explore how AI could be used within teaching and learning contexts at Oxford. It aimed to:

  • explore and promote innovative AI applications in teaching and learning, and academic administration
  • ensure ethical and academically sound AI usage
  • reflect the Russell Group principles on use of AI in education in the collegiate University context.

On 9 July, colleagues from the projects and those interested from across the University gathered for a Knowledge Exchange Forum to share findings and outcomes, as well as invite feedback on these projects. You can view the full reports and outputs of each of our projects on the CTL website.
